Getting Acquainted
July 13, 1993 was a life-changing day.
I was a PGY-1 at the Medical Center of Delaware for my year of internal medicine. (MCD is now called “Christiana Care,” but to me, it will always be the Medical Center of Delaware.)
Brand new in town, I didn't know a soul. A drug rep organized a trip to a baseball game at Camden Yards. Hoping to make some friends, I signed up. Besides, I loved baseball. (In my next life, I’m coming back as Annie Savoy.)
While the Pirates were my favorite National League team, the Orioles were my favorite American League team. I stood on the front steps of the hospital waiting for the shuttle bus along with some other house staff.
The chief resident introduced me to a handsome, brawny PGY-2. Turns out, he and I were the only two single people on the trip, so of course, we had to sit together.
Beyond a mutual enthusiasm for baseball, we ended up having a lot in common. In fact, we really hit it off.
In October 1997, we got married.
