An Artifact

by Dr. Soma Sengupta

You sent me a card, when your mother died.

She would pass and did pass,

Everything that would be and was faded

With her smile, you knew, and you thanked,

I felt as if I had lost again, but you gave me courage.

You sent me a text of a photograph of your child

Your daughter, her smile like her grandmother’s

Melted one’s heart like the sun,

Yet all I have left is a note, a memory

Which will fade with time, and time that once was.
